Why This Book Matters

  • 125 million children worldwide live with rare conditions — that’s one in every classroom.

  • Fewer than 3.4% of children’s books feature a character with a disability; even fewer highlight rare genetics.

About The Book

A lyrical story of uniqueness and belonging.

One of the first children’s books created to represent rare kids.

Written to give them the visibility they deserve.

I Am Rare is a lyrical picture book that celebrates the beauty of being one of a kind.

Told through the voice of a child with a rare condition, it introduces readers to the science of genes—the blueprint that makes each of us unique.

Rare does not mean wrong. It means few. And while each rare condition is unique, together they represent many—a community that deserves to be seen and celebrated.

Just like superheroes whose powers come from their mutations, children with rare genes carry strength within them. It may take time to discover, but when pride takes root, their light shines with a magical glow for all to see.

This book is not only for children with rare conditions. It is for anyone who has ever felt different.

With poetic imagery of masterpieces, stars, and superheroes, I Am Rare empowers children to embrace their individuality and helps peers and siblings better understand the beauty of differences.

Complete with a glossary of child-friendly terms, I Am Rare is both educational and deeply empowering. It reminds us that when we celebrate our uniqueness, the world shines brighter.
